How it works
Dividend income is share count × annual dividend per share — simple, but seeing it split per payout makes it concrete: 100 shares paying 2.50 annually is 62.50 landing every quarter. Yield ties that income back to what the position costs today, which is the number to compare against bonds or savings rates.

How is dividend yield calculated?
Annual dividend per share ÷ current share price × 100. A stock paying 2.50 per year at a 50 share price yields 5%.
Is a higher yield always better?
No — an unusually high yield often means the market expects a dividend cut (the price fell faster than the payout). Sustainable payout ratios matter more than headline yield.
What about dividend reinvestment (DRIP)?
